Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.
If you look into the entrants for Rangiora trials and workouts on the 27thĀ youāll find a number of hot prospects.
The interest starts early, in the first of the day, with the introduction of a trotter daughter of Father Patrick – one thatās out of a grand pacing mare! Bodacious (Father Patrick-Imagine That) is trained by Dean Taylor and comes off a couple of 2nd placings at recent learners and workout events. For all the Imagine That did on the track (a Gr1 winner of the Sires Stakes Fillies Championship of 2003 among other feature wins) the now deceased star is yet to leave a winner as a mother. Her progeny includes Big Buddie, a 5-start maiden by Mister Big, and the 4-start maiden in Art Omatic. Itāll be interesting to see if the trotting sire can get the best out of this family yet.

In the second heat of the day Danni Alfeld lines up Sans Repos (Art MajorĀ –Ā Sans Le Sou) Sans le Sou performed well on the race, winning 8 starts from a career spanning some 5 seasons, she also mustered a further 21 minor placings, making for career earnings of around the $70ā000 mark. Sans Repos is her first foal. Further back in the bloodlines youāll find Titanium (Tintin In America) a 3-time winner on NZ soil and a 1.51. type in the USA, and Arma Courage (Courage Under Fire), the 3-time race winner and mother to the smart Arma Indie (Well Said) who placed 3rd in the Gr1 Westral Mares Classic of 2019. Itās the family of AR Miss, mother to the great Armalight.
The third heat of the day sees a number of juvenile prospects going around. Party Central (Captaintreacherous-Partyon) catches the eye for the obvious reason that his mother was a very smart horse indeed. Being prepared out of the Mark and Nathan Purdon stable will not hinder things in terms of development either. Party Central comes into this heat off the back of a 2ndĀ last week behind Woodlea Rocks in 2.42.6. Party On is yet to leave a winner although her second foal, My Way (Art Major) has been placed from limited starts.

The last that weāll cover here comes in the form of Elektra King (Captaintreacherous – Cullens Bet) Out of the Telfer barn, Elektra King has plenty to live up to – Mother Cullens Bet is a 1/2 sister to the great performer in Merlin (Art Major) a horse thatās managed 15 wins from just the 21 starts to date. Durrant (5 wins) and Gemma Mac (5 wins) are also close relations. Itās one of the most relevant and lauded families in the sales book at the moment and, with little doubt, Elektra King will most probably have the ability to carry on that winning habit for the breed.
