Speed in the Breed – Progeny of Katy Perry and Scorcha ready to fly

If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track you’re likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.

The Rangiora trials on the 2^nd of April sees some excellent fields of prospects assembled – among the interesting bloodlines present are the following…

Brandi Snapp (Betterthancheddar – Crystal Bromac) Appearing out of the J Curtin stable, this daughter of Betterthancheddar will look to improve on a second placing at workouts on the 23^rd of march at Motukarara. Brandi Snapp is a full sister to the race winner in Emmersyn Lee while she also counts the 3-time winner in Sarasota Sunset among her siblings. Grandam Congo Breeze impressed in a career spanning some 50+ races, winning a number of races in the USA while also proving herself capable of leaving a winner – both Chanelle Bromac (7 wins) and Cougar Bromac (9 wins) among her progeny.

Katys Shadow (Captain Crunch – Katy Perry) An exciting prospect given her breeding. Katys Shadow looks to continue her way towards the racetrack after finishing 4^th at Ashburton trials last week.  Dam Katy Perry was a fantastic performer, claiming the Breeders Crown 2YO Fillies Final at Melton in 2014 alongside a victory in the NZ Yearling Sales 2YO Fillies Final in the same year when defeating Fight For Glory and Bettor Be Surpreme. As a mother Katy Perry has left the impressive Major Perry (Art Major) a 10-time winner with career earnings of over $200’000

Star power came to Alexandra Park when Katy Perry delivered in the NZ Yearling Sales 2YO Fillies Final  

Sacetas (Bettor’s Delight – Scorcha) Trained by Tom Bagrie this 2yr-old is certainly one to watch in times to come. A confident workout winner on the 21^st, Sacetas is the first foal out of 4-time winner in Scorcha, while grandam Sparks Under Fire has proven herself time and time again as a broodmare leaving Fuoco (11 wins) Our El Fuego (9 wins) Burning (26 wins) Fire One (8 wins) and Major Fire (10 wins)..and that’s only a few of her offspring! It’s a great breed – now it’s up to Secetas to continue the winning habit.

Secetas wins a learners workout impressively on the 21st of March 

Sweet Mama (Sweet Lou – Pistol Packing Mama) Going around in a learners pace towards the end of the program, this Robert Anderson trained 3yr-old filly is out of one of the great maternal lines in the catalogue. Dam Pistol Packing Mama, herself a race winner, has already left Better Pack A Pistol (8 wins) Bite The Bullet (10 wins) and Rocknroll Mama (12 wins).  A quick look back through the generations of this family and you’ll come across the great broodmare in Black Watch. It’s a family that’s had a major impact on the yearling sales and racing history over the past decades. Can Sweet Mama prove herself worthy of her family name? We’ll see soon enough.
