Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful harness racing families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.
A look intoĀ the Rangiora trials and workouts on the 13th of March sees some notable bloodlines present and ready to impress – these would include…
Four Wise Women (Majestic SonĀ –Ā Harriet Hughes) Anyone familiar with the smart trotter in Four Wise Men would have made the connection here – the next star out of the dam Harriet Hughes could well be this daughter of Majestic Son. Having already produced Bert Powell (3 wins) and the open-class trotter in Harriet Of Mot (Gr 1 placed) Harriet Hughes is a mother thatās already proven herself a number of times over. Itās the first appearance at the track for the three-year-old filly and there’ll be plenty of interest over how she shapes up in times to come.
Harriet Of Mot places in the ANZAC Cup of 2018Ā Ā
Got The Chocolates (Art MajorĀ –Ā Kate Black) Another potential talking point on the card comes up in the 4th heat of the day when Got The Chocolates goes around. The 2yr-old colt by Art Major is out of the 4-time winner in Kate Black. Granddam Kateās First was nothing but a star of the track, winning over $600ā000 in career earnings and taking major titles such as the 1997 Auckland Cup, the 1997 Nevele R 3YO Fillies Series Final, and the New Zealand Oaks title of the same year when victorious over Bludebird. The superstar pacer Christian Cullen, the impressive Oscar De La Hoya, and the sire Julius Caesar add weight to this already overflowing family of speed and success. Thereās much to live up to if your name is Got The Chocolates!
Cocktails And Caviar (Bettor’s DelightĀ –Ā Alta Leonie) The Telfer barn keeps the quality coming by lining up this son of Bettorās Delight in the 9thĀ heat of the day. Already a trial winner last week Cocktails And Caviar will look to continue that habit against a full field this week. The now deceased dam, Alta Leonie, won 6 from 19 race day starts including running a sound 5thĀ in behind Opoutama in the Uncut Gems feature of 2018. Cocktails and Caviar being the only foal she produced before her passing.
Cocktails And Caviar looks to continue to impress after this effort last weekĀ Ā
Mossdale Shona (Bettor’s DelightĀ –Ā Mossdale Major) Going around in the last workout of the day, Mossdale Shona catches the eye as a filly with some major speed in her bloodlines. Mother Mossdale Major (Major In Art) won 2 from 11 appearances and has excelled as a broodmare, leaving the likes of Mossdale Art (5 wins) Mossdale Mac (7 wins) and Mossdale Terry (3 wins) Itās a family of high-speed individuals so tracking the hooves of Mossdale Shona could lead to the winning post sooner rather than later.
