Welcome into our Speed in the breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success.Ā
A quick look at the Rangiora workouts on Wednesday reveals a number of animals with some major success behind them.
Lipinski (American IdealĀ –Ā Tara Tralee) Currently trained by Kyle Cameron, Lipinski is a 4yr-old mare who has been well schooled at trials and workouts. The wider family is well known to racegoers through the exploits of two powerhouse performers in particular – Power Of Tara and A Gās White Socks – both of which are out of Granddam Atomic Gold. The dam, Tara Tralee, though unraced herself, has left the Australian domiciled Robshaw, who has 7 wins to his name. Ā A 1/2 sister to Tara Tralee, Tara Delight, has also been a super broodmare in her own right with the tough Tango Tara and Creed her most notable offspring.
The Mark and Nathan Purdon stable produce the 3yr-old colt For Always Arden (Always B Miki–Ā Arden’s Darlin) Itās a well-known dam line and one thatās inevitably been able to produce winners too. Given a number of workouts and trials in the middle part of 2023, For Always Arden is a 1/2 brother to the prolific Australian winner in Celestial Arden while Arden Voyager (14 wins) and Venturesome Arden (3 wins from 18 starts) are also out of the dam. Ardenās Darlin herself notched up 5 race wins including a number of class results in Listed and Group affairs. A notable NZ Sales Series Fillies Final in April of 2008 among her victories – she also ran a gallant 2nd to Rona Lorraine in the Caduceus Club Classic.
ARDEN’S DARLIN REPLAY
The last notable to appear on the workout sheet that weāll cover here is the Bob Butt trained Ukraine. Carrying a name thatās something of a topic of conversation at the moment, the 2yr-old son of Captain Crunch is out of Back In The USSR. Dizzy Miss Lizzy (Changeover) Lady Madonna (Art Major) and Hard Days Night (Christian Cullen), all out of the dam, have already impressed on the track so thereās plenty to live up to.
The Captain Crunch factor is another talking point with the sire being something of an unknown on these shores despite his excellent racing record in North America. A quick glance at the wider family and you’ll come across race track performers like Blackbird Fly,Ā Glenferrie EJ, and the great Lennon – out of Penny Lane.
