Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
Ā If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.
A look at the Rangiora and Chertsey trials and workouts on the 30thĀ of AprilĀ sees some great prospects presented, these include
Wanna Play A Game (Tactical LandingĀ – Wanna Play) Appearing in the learners trot at Rangiora, this 3yr-old by Tactical Landing, trained by Mark Jones, has plenty to live up to out on the track. Dam Wanna Play won 5 from 32 including taking out the Gr2 Sires Stakes Trotting Championship of 2014 over Arya and the brilliant Monbet.
Sheās also already produced the goods as a broodmare, leaving the impressive Wanna Play With Me (Love You)Ā as her first foal. Extended family ties also bring about names like Hot Pants (23 wins) Yagunnakissmeornot (17 wins) and Emma Hamilton (6 wins)
A close relation to Wanna Play A Game, Wanna Play With Me, wins at listed level.
Dynasty (Rocknroll Hanover – Special Rose) A 3yr-old filly out of the B Butt stable, Dynasty has had a decent grounding having already appeared in a number of workouts towards the end of 2023.
The dynastic story behind her would tell of horses like the 13-time winner in ApplauseĀ (Mach Three)Ā and the 7-time winner Prestonpans (Somebeachsomewhere) Possibly the best-known performer from this family historically would be City Rogue, a winner of the Australian Derby of 2001 when victorious over Sokys Image and Falcons Legacy.

Ryella (Sky Major– Miss Lisa) Making an appearance in a learners pace at Chertsey is this well-bred daughter of Sky Major. Dam Miss Lisa (McArdle) managed to win 4 from her 36-race day starts and has proven herself a capable broodmare with the 5-time winner Pilch (Courage Under Fire) being her first foal. The big, rolling, Group 2 placed Franco Marek (A Rocknroll Dance)Ā is another of her progeny.
The damline is best known for the exploits of Adio RoutineĀ (Equitable II) a superb mare and winner of the NZ Standardbred Breeders Stakes of 1997.
Franco Marek places at Gr2 level.
