Speedy trotter in foal and thriving

Majestic Action has a big chance to notch another win at Ashburton on Tuesday as her racing career counts down.

Trainer Trent Yesberg is hoping to make the most of the time he has left with the mare who is in foal and heading towards retirement.

Proven to produce successful results on the track with many mares before her, Majestic Action (Majestic Son) has been no different and has thrived while being in foal.

The six-year-old and her plus one come into race 8 after cruising to victory in her last start at Rangiora.

“The only thing today is that it is a slightly bigger field, so we have a few more to get around,” Yesberg said.

“She is flying at the moment and she is in foal, so she has really turned the corner.”

“She is quite a hormonal horse, so being in foal has really helped her out and she is racing accordingly.”

“I think this race is no tougher than she has raced the last few weeks.”

“So long as she can get around them all, she will be pretty hard to beat, I think.”

Kusanova was among the horses that ploughed through heavy conditions at Westport after Christmas.

The mare gets back on the more solid footing on the all-weather at Ashburton in race 6.

“She was pretty good on the second day at Westport,” Yesberg said.

“She hasn’t performed on wet tracks that well in the past, so I thought her performance was good.”

“If she steps like she can – she either makes a flier or misses it – she will get pretty handy and I am pretty confident she can run in the top three.”

Twilight Bromac brings great form to race 3 for Yesberg.

Though the pacer faces a tricky second line draw his chances ultimately rest with his own desire.

“He is a bit of an enigma, he works like a good horse but he doesn’t quite put his life on the line come race day.

“It is a tougher field that he has been racing but I don’t necessarily think it is how good the fields are that matters.”

“It is just whether he tries hard.”

“He can run the times, it is just a matter of whether he wants it.”

Yesberg also starts Taliesin in race 4 following a tidy effort for fifth in his last start at Rangiora.

“We have had quite a few wee niggles with this horse but his last two starts suggest we are heading in the right direction.”

“At Motukarara he didn’t get out really, the hood was on all the way up the straight until the last 50m.”

“Then at Rangiora he was held up a little up, he didn’t let down amazingly but I think the three-day back up might have taken a wee bit of sprint off him.”

“But he is definitely heading in the right direction.”

Tim Williams drives Twlight Bromac, Ricky May drives Kusanova and Taliesin and Matthew Williamson will pilot Majestic Action.
