As expected, defending champions Self Assured and Sundees Son top the rankings for this year’s IRT New Zealand Cup and the Dominion Trot.
The first rankings for the two Cup and Show Week features have just been released, and will be updated weekly in the build-up to November’s showcase Race Meetings at Addington Raceway.
Four pacers have already qualified for the New Zealand Cup on Tuesday November 9 with Self Assured as the 2020 winner, and he’s joined by Auckland Cup winner Amazing Dream, Maurice Holmes Vase winner Classie Brigade, and Di Caprio who took out the New Brighton Cup. They are ranked 1-4 with Copy That rounding out the top five.
South Coast Arden, who is now a $4.60 second favourite with the TAB, is currently 12th in the rankings.
2018 New Zealand Cup champion Thefixer has been withdrawn, with his owners deciding to retire him from all racing after the discovery of a suspensory injury.
The list is based on initial rankings as well as what horses have done in the current transitional season from August 1.
Superstar trotter Sundees Son is a clear favourite to go back to back in the DominionTrot on Show Day, November 12. He’s currently at a $1.80 quote with the TAB.
Majestic Man is second in the rankings followed by Bolt For Brilliance, Muscle Mountain and Australian visitor Maori Law at five.
The TAB has Bolt For Brilliance ($5) and Muscle Mountain ($5.50) as Sundees Son’s biggest threats.
