“He’s always had the motor and the legs hadn’t caught up but they’re starting to do that now,” driver Robbie Close told Nigel Armstrong from Harness Racing Unhinged after Tactical Bid (Tactical Landing) won at Addington tonight.
TACTICAL BID REPLAY
Trained at Woodend Beach by Regan Todd, Tactical Bid was passed in at the 2022 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales in Christchurch and Todd purchased him for $30,000 afterwards.
“His conformation wasn’t the best but we had his brother (Magic Dash) and liked his breeding, so we thought we’d have a crack with him,” Todd said.
He was offered at the sales by Nikki Reed and Scott Green of Ashburton on behalf of Stallions Australasia Limited and is out of the unraced Pegasus Spur mare Habibti Sadie whose dam Ten To One has left Habibti Inta (Love You) the winner of the G1 Dominion Handicap and Habibti (Love You) the winner of the New Zealand Trotting Derby.
In tonight’s race Close got Tactical Bid away well and kept him wide heading towards the first bend. Once the three year old was trotting fluently Close took him to the top and he stayed there, winning by eight and a half lengths from Major Cyclone (Father Patrick) who trotted home late.
Tactical Bid trotted his last 800 metres under his own steam in 58.6.
