Team Bagrie poised to make a strong start

Team Bagrie is poised to make a successful strong to the season at Addington on Friday night.

Between them father and son trainers Peter and Tom Bagrie line up four horses on a nine-race card.

Tom starts two horses in race 4 in maiden fillies in Daisy Duke and Maid Of Money.

Daisy Duke (Bettor’s Delight) comes into the 1980m event after running third in her first two starts at the races.

In the latest of those, the four-year-old hit the line strongly after racing deep on the pegs.

How deep on the markers Daisy Duke settles from barrier 1 on the second row could decide her fate on Friday night.

“She is a nice wee mare, she got injured as a late two-year-old when she was just about ready to rock n roll.”

“She had a big, long time out, it was a bit of a hiccup but we qualified her and then gave her another big break.”

“But she seems to have come back really well.”

“It is quite a good draw for her to be locked away on the fence.”

“She had the same draw last week and got out late and run home nice for third.”

“Hopefully she is closer to the action, but if she is not I will be happy to see her running past a few.”

Bagrie debuts Maid Of Money in race 4 and hopes she turns out to be a typical Bettor’s Delight – relaxed in nature until lifting to another level at the races.

“She just hasn’t worked out that she is a racehorse yet because everything she has done has been on a loose line.”

“She is progressing better and better at the trials and she seems to go better when she is in a field and has horses around her.”

“We are hoping that she lifts on race night, but she is not quite as forward as Daisy Duke yet.”

John Dunn drives Daisy Duke with Blair Orange to drive Maid Of Money from barrier 8.

The Bagries go head-to-head in race 7 with Tom lining up Journo (Devon van Til) and Peter starting Five Star General (John Dunn).

Father has a clear advantage over son going by each horse’s form.

Tom has had an eye on Five Star General (Art Major) in work this week and rates the pacer as hard to beat.

“He is overdue, his first two starts this time in have been very nice.”

“In his last one he was posted out three wide but he kept trucking in a solid time.”

“He gets another bad draw, we would love to see them come off the back of them, he would be a great sit sprinter.”

“But because he is so low-rated he always comes out favourite and he has got to be put in the race.”

“It will be up to Johnny (Dunn) what happens.”

“He has had the week off after his last two starts and he has worked really well this week, Dad was really happy with him.”

Five Star General starts from barrier 8 with Journo on the second line in barrier 12.

Journo (Sportswriter) comes into race 7 on the back of a sound 7th behind Glenthorne in his last outing at Addington.

“He went completely off the boil and we gave him a spell and we bought him back up and he has done nothing wrong in all of his trials and his races.”

“But he is not that brave unless he is in front, so I don’t know how it is going to pan out.”

“With any luck he will try his heart out and be right there.”

Team Bagrie’s horses just have to race up to the standard set for them by the two stables’ exports in the past few days.

Bettor’s Heart won at the Meadowlands 1:50.2 last weekend and Belmont Major won at Pocono Downs in 1:51.3 four days prior.
