Harness racing driver Blair Orange put on a set of colours as an undergarment yesterday at the Young Quinn Raceway at Wyndham to keep warm on what was a bitterly cold day.
The distinct stars and stripes set he used to ward off the cold would have been worn by Ken Barron who trained and drove the very able racehorse Georgetown (Washington VC) between 2007 and 2010. He won twelve races for owners Ed Wardwell and Grant Dickey and the colours are still registered to Wardwell.
Georgetownās wins included the G2 Elsu Classic, and the Listed NZ Sales Series Open. He earned $534,190 in stakes.
He went on to win a further two races in Australia one of which was the $100,000 G1 Eurodrive Winter Cup when he was driven by ex-kiwi Michael Langdon. He beat Blacks Are Fake in that race.
The colours certainly brought Orange luck as he drove four winners yesterday. The wins included RubiraĀ (Always B Miki) who won the 2024 G2 Macca Lodge Kindergarten Stake.
