Nine males and one female will take their place in ‘The Velocity’ on a super harness racing card at Addington Raceway and the action promises to be super charged too.
The $500,000 Listed – Hill, Lee and Scott ‘The Velocity’ Three Year Old Pacers Slot Race has drawn a quality lineup with the only filly Coastal Babe, (Downbytheseaside) drawing the inside marble.
West Melton trainer Hayden Cullen has two candidates in the race.
We Walk By Faith (Bettor’s Delight) has been out of form going into the race but the gelding has been a bit unwell.
“We got him scoped after his last start and he was full of mucus. He was quite crook with a bad virus so we’ve treated him and he’s really jumped out of the ground again. He seems like a different horse and I’m really happy with him at the moment,” Cullen said.
He’s drawn five on the front line and will be driven by regular pilot Bob Butt.
“He’s been plagued by bad draws so I think we’ll be inclined to use it (the draw). We’ll have a look anyway, because he’s a high speed horse. We wouldn’t be mucking around anyway.”
Cullen picked We Walk By Faith as a good place chance in “The Velocity’.
His other runner Harrison John (Always B Miki) draws three on the second row and follows out Mako.
“He’s had no luck with the draws in his last two starts. His starts before that have been very good. I’m happy with his work but he’s taken a bit of figuring out. We’ve only had him for a couple of months. He’s shown he’s a better stayer than sprinter.”
Southern hopes fall on the shoulders of Dreams Are Free (Captaintreacherous) trained by Nathan Williamson who will drive the colt on Friday.
“He seems well in himself and is eating well. He’s still having a wee bit of a blow in his training but perhaps not as bad as he was. We definitely think we’re onto what was happening with him. We just hope he puts his best foot forward on race day now,” Williamson said.
Dreams Are Free was in stunning form at Ashburton, beating four of his Velocity rivals and a handful of other quality three year olds.
In tomorrow’s feature he’ll start from the outside of the second row and follow out noted gate runner Jeremiah.
“It’s probably the one draw I didn’t want. I would have taken any other draw other than that but it’s only bad after the race. Being out wide does help in that you could probably work forward in the three wide train and get into a prominent spot. We won’t make any plans and just drive him as to how he feels.”
