Harness racing breeders Charlie and Ailsa Smaill appear to have another good ‘Jaccka’ trotter.
Joy Jaccka (Creatine) looks to have raw talent and the way she led and won today (Jan. 28) at the Wairio meeting would point to an exciting season ahead for the Riversdale couple and trainer Brett Gray.
JOY JACCKA REPLAY
Driver Brent Barclay took the three year old straight to the lead and she trotted faultlessly to win by two and a half lengths.
“Brent said she was a bit keen but he was happy and just had to go with her a bit. It was good that she stepped away because she hasn’t been the fastest of steppers,” Gray said.
Joy Jaccka is out of Janine Jaccka (Sundon) who has been a super producer for the Smaills.
She’s left the winners of forty eight races including Jaccka Justy (Continentalman) the winner of thirteen races including the Group One Dominion Handicap and Jaccka Jack also by Continentalman which won fourteen. Gray says Joy Jaccka is typical of the family.
“She’s been hard work as the family normally are and they don’t normally win first up. She’s a lovely mare but I probably will have to back off her a bit and reset because she’s done a lot this time in. We’ve still got a bit of work to do but I think she’ll make a nice horse.”
