Veteran warhorse upsets strong field in Aged Classic

He’s done more harness racing miles than most. But the miles on the clock didn’t stop eight year old Warloch (Well Said) from beating younger legs at Kaikoura today (Oct. 31).

The veteran of 110 starts was given the perfect trip by driver Sam Ottley and the pressure throughout the race played into the gelding’s hands. The gap opened for Ottley halfway down the straight and Warloch punched through to beat Fernleigh Cash by a head.

WARLOCH REPLAY

Trained by Micheal House for most of his five seasons career Warloch has started in Southland and Auckland and most places in between. He’s had some good quality races like the Invercargill Cup, Northern Southland Cup and New Brighton Cup under his belt, but today’s win in the Listed Sales Series Aged Classic was by far his biggest win.

“He’s been a grand old campaigner. He’s been an old favourite of mine and Micky’s (Micheal House) for a while. We had a bit of luck today and it was awesome to get a win like this for Micheal. He’s been a supporter of mine for a long time and it’s always nice to reward those trainers who have the faith to put you on,” Ottley told Trackside presenter Nicole Sim after the upset.

Warloch paid $68.00 to win and $13.00 for a place. This was his fourteenth win.
