The well credentialed harness racing gelding Wag Star (Sweet Lou) returns to the racetrack tomorrow night at Addington for Wyndham trainer Craig Ferguson.
The lightly raced five year old has competed against the best company in the two season he’s raced and has won six of his seventeen starts.
Wag Star last started in the Junior FFA on Show Day in November. The last part of his four year old season was halted when the contracted a virus.

“We brought him home, freshened him and were going to take him to the Invercargill Cup. He got a bit of cold. Rather than get him through we gave him a bit of a break,” Ferguson said.
Since returning to active duties, Wag Star has had two workouts on his home track to ready him for tomorrow’s assignment.
“He’s a funny horse He only does what he has to at home and even at the workouts. He’s always stepped up on race day. He seems as good as he’s ever been before he’s line up at the races but you always have that little bit of doubt in your mind. He always has the blinds on when he races. We’ve left them off for trials and workouts but the blinds will go on for Friday night and that seems to switch him on a wee bit more.”
The five year old will start off ten metres for the 2600 metre trip. He’s had four standing start races, winning once and being placed twice.
“He’s gone away every time he’s had a stand although he got wiped out at Kaikoura.”
When safely through his Addington assignment Ferguson will sit down to map out a programme for the talented pacer.
“If he goes super we haven’t ruled out taking him up north. We’ll get a gauge on what he does on Friday night and decide what’s going to be best for him. I worked him the Auckland way this morning and he worked really nice. He doesn’t hit anywhere and he steers fine, so I can’t see it being too much of an issue.”
