Harness racing trainers Michelle Wallis and Bernie Hackett hold a numbers advantage in tonight’s $30,000 Group Three Harcourts Waikato Trotting Breeders Stakes at Cambridge Raceway.
Their three runners Faith On Manchester (Creatine), Emma Frost (Monkey Bones) and Mums Jewel (Quaker Jet) ran the trifecta on the Cambridge track at their last starts so all are in good shape for the 2700 metre handicap feature.
“All three are as good as they can be at the moment,” Wallis said.
Faith On Manchester with Todd Mitchell is the only runner off the front line and her formline suggests she’ll be a player.
“I can’t work the handicap out in this race, but it is what it is and I think Faith In Manchester comes into this race really well. She was a little bit weak as a three year old but after a spell she’s a lot stronger, racing a lot better and a lot more consistent. She steps well, we’ve got Todd (Mitchell) on her and I think she could be the best of our three.”
Aged grey mare Emma Frost is back in form and ran home nicely at Cambridge. Starting off twenty metres Crystal Hackett takes the drive.
“She’s just an honest girl and tries her best most times she goes out there. She does have bad feet and when her form tapers off it’s normally her feet, and we just need to back off and sweat them, then she comes right again. Hopefully we’re on top of it again and she’s back in form.
Last start winner Mums Jewel is also in great form with Maurice McKendry doing the driving.
“This is a step up for her. She’s won three races so she deserves a shot at it. She’s a little bit hard done by with only being twenty metres in front of Double Delight (Captaintreacherous). We just hope she can keep in front of her for as long as we can.
Wallis says Emma Frost is the best suited to the 2700 metres journey and that Faith In Manchester is better equipped to handle the distance as a four year old.
“Mums Jewel I’m not a 100% sure but we’ll find out tonight.”
