With two well bred fillies – Our Golden Kenny (Love You) and Majestic Love (Majestic Son), Oamaru harness racing trainer Phil Williamson won two of the three trotting races at Wyndham today (Oct. 13). And both three year olds were handled with an air of confidence by Phil’s son Brad.
In her first start Our Golden Kenny, on the back of some good trials form, started as favourite and Brad took her to the front with just over a lap to run. She won with a bit to spare by two and a quarter lengths.
“Without discrediting the others, she did win well. She just lacks experience and once she gets that she won’t be a bad horse,” Phil said.
Our Golden Kenny is out of the Sundon mare Nice One Kenny which won two races from a limited career. Her full sisters, One Over Kenny and One Under Kenny won forty three races between them.
OUR GOLDEN KENNY REPLAY
Williamson says at this stage the New Zealand Trotting Oaks is not on Our Golden Kenny’s radar.
“It’s a little bit soon for her. She’s probably got the quality to be there but we’ll just be taking her along quietly because she’s quite big. She’s quite a quality horse though. We’ll look at racing her at Christmas time.”
Majestic Love who broke in the Southland Trotting Oaks, redeemed herself with her win today.
“There was a bit of a groundswell of opinion that the mobile was waiting on a horse that missed away. Then it accelerated quite sharply. That’s caught her out because normally she’s rock solid,” Williamson said when analysing the run.
MAJESTIC LOVE REPLAY
Today she trotted home nicely to beat Minnie McGoogan by three quarters of a length.
“She’s quite a capable horse and she’ll be going to the Oaks because she’s raced a bit more. Hidden Talent and Double Delight are in a league of their own but my filly deserves to be there.”
The New Zealand Trotting Oaks will be run at the end of November at Addington. Phil won the Oaks with One Over Kenny in 2005.
Majestic Love is a full sister to group one winning trotter Majestic Man. Both are raced by the Griffins Syndicate.
