By Majestic Son, Galleons Devotion is out of two-win mare Ugly Betty, a half-sister to Group One winners Pocaro, Daenerys Targaryen, Sun Of Anarchy, and Group One performer Springbank Sam, and John Morrison is hoping she can have just a slither of her familyās ability.
The three-year-old trotter has had three trials and won her 2400m workout last Saturday and Morrison is hoping for a solid debut performance.
āShe is a good, gaited horse, and has done things right in her trials, but raceday is a big step,ā Morrison said. āHopefully she can get around in one piece and be running on.
āShe has got a bit of speed. She hasnāt shown too much, but I havenāt asked for a lot either.ā
Morrison will also take the reins behind the Gavin Burgess-trained Alpine Delight who will have their first run in more than 18 months when they contest the Mid-Winter At Addington New Date 6th August Mobile Pace (1980m).
āI think he just had a bit of soundness trouble,ā Morrison said. āHe trialled okay, so hopefully he can do the same thing on Friday.
āHe hasnāt raced for a while, but I have driven him in two trials and he is heading on the right path.ā
The Greg Manson-trained Copperhead Rose takes two third placings into the Business Carpet Dealz NZ-Phone 0800 713340 Handicap Pace (2600m) and Morrison expects a similar result on Friday when he takes the reins.
āHe has been going quite good,ā he said. āHe probably needed the run first-up because his last two have been really good.
āHe has been hitting the line well with good times so hopefully he can get away and get a good run.ā
Morrison is also looking forward to hopping in the cart behind eight-win mare Time In A Bottle in the Hagley Windows & Doors Handicap Trot (2600m).
āShe is an honest old mare. She usually does things right, she just needs to be driven for one run, so it all depends on how the race is run,ā Morrison said.
