Williamson runners have the ability

Hannon Memorial day at Oamaru always provides some great harness racing and today will be no exception.

While the Hannon has assembled a tidy field the undercard races have also attracted exciting fields with raiders from Canterbury locking horns with their Southern counterparts.

Local trainer Phil Williamson has a handy team of trotters engaged including the well bred Our Pinocchio (Bacardi Lindy-Jo Anne) who is debuting on his home track and who has a fair amount of ability.

“He has got ability but he is a work in progress to be fair,” Williamson told Bruce Stewart from Southern Harness during the week.

“He’s a big fella and possibly needs to mature a bit and maybe needs some racing but he does have the ability”

Our Pinocchio is out of the well performed trotting mare Jo Anne who won 12 races including the 2001 NZ Trotting Stakes.

Williamson’s other two trotters Jimmy Carter (The Pres) in Race 4 and Springbank Mason (Majestic Son) in Race 7 would both be good chances if they trotted all the way but the manners have been letting them down on race day.

Jimmy Carter is a half brother to Williamson’s trotter Our Pinocchio in Race 2 and if he steps he would go close to winning Race 4.

Springbank Mason comes up against the classy trotter Majestic Lavros so would need to be on his best behavior to be any chance. Majestic Lavros (Majestic Son) went down fighting at his last start running a solid second behind one of New Zealand’s best trotters Sundees Son in the Ordeal Trotting Cup. Normally a quick beginner Majestic Lavros is currently the favourite for today’s race and will start from a 20m handicap.

Southern star Pembrook Playboy looks a good chance for Nathan Williamson when he takes on a good field in the time honoured Hannon Memorial today. Pembrook Playboy comes up against an in-form Robert Dunn pairing of Classie Brigade and Henry Hubert along with a host of other good performed pacers in the Group 3 FFA over 2600m from a standing start.
