The Mark and Nathan Purdon trained Treacherous Baby (Captaintreacherous) had to handle a bit of rough and tumble in order to triumph at the Invercargill harness racing meeting yesterday.
After leading off the gate she was taken on by Ruby Roe who eventually got to the top. But once the young Nathan Williamson trained filly got to the lead, she switched off and began to run out from the inside running line.
āLuckily she (Treacherous Baby) had the ringcraft to handle herself well,ā Purdon said.
He moved quickly out of the trail and took over the pacemakerās role again and Treacherous Baby stuck on tenaciously to beat a late run from Flying Ellie to win by a length and a quarter.
āToday was the nicest sheās ever felt. It felt like the penny has dropped and she just felt more of a racehorse. We added the half winkers today and she was a lot more focused. The trip away has been good for her too.ā
Purdon says Treacherous Baby will have a few quiet days and is likely to head north in the New Year for three year old filly features at Alexandra Park.
The filly is owned by long time stable clients Braeden and Caroline Whitelock who also bred her.
