Ya Rite Darl hot favourite for Southern Oaks

The Robert and Jenna Dunn trained trotting filly Ya Rite Darl (What The Hill) is at very skinny odds for tomorrows $25,000 Aldebaran Zeus Southern Trotting Oaks at Ascot Park in Invercargill.

Aware of the weather forecast for Invercargill, regular driver John Dunn pulled the right rein just before the driver declaration deadline and delegated his brother-in-law Tim Williams with the drive.

Williams is probably more accustomed to fickle southern weather, having worked for Ascot Park trainer Wayne Adams for a number of years. He’d be familiar with travelling down Findlay Road into a westerly gale.

Ya Rite Darl was sensational at her last start at Addington, leading and clearing out to win by twelve and a half lengths.

“She did it quite nice. We didn’t go time, but it was a terrible night with it being windy and wet,” said John Dunn.

The diminutive filly showed her class early in her career winning three of her nine starts as a two year old and Dunn says he’s noticed improvement since her two year old season.

“That trip up north toughened her up a bit racing the boys and she’s definitely got stronger with time, which is good.”

Tomorrow’s 2200 metre mobile should suit Ya Rite Darl.

“She’s lethal over the short distance. She’s not overly big but she’s good gaited and fast. The odd time she’s missed away from the mobile, but overall she’s been pretty good.”
