This series will look at some of the higher priced yearlings that were bought at the 2024 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales in Auckland and Christchurch.

In this edition we talk to Steve Telfer about some of the Stonewall Stud purchases.

  • Unnamed (Captaintreacherous – Kensington Kate colt bought by Stonewall Stud for $145,000.

“He broke in well. He’s in the South Island barn. He’s got good manners and a good attitude towards his work. It’s a long way before the two year old races but we’re happy with what he’s done so far.”

  • Captaintreacherous – Kensington Kate colt

Utah Blaze (Bettor’s Delight – Rockabilly Blues colt purchased by Stonewall for $100,000.

“He’s up here with me. He’s a really strong colt who’s a nice mover on the track. He’s got a bit of attitude. He’s just gone out for a month. He looks like he’s a forward sort of type.”

  • Bettor’s Delight – Rockabilly Blues colt

Unnamed (Tactical Landing – Love Ya Doosie) filly which Stonewall Stud paid $180,000. for.

“She’s had a couple of preparations. She’s a lovely big striding filly, she’s shown a real willingness to get along and do her work. Josh Dickie has been working her and he’s really happy with her.”

  • Tactical Landing – Love Ya Doosie filly

Unnamed (Bettor’s Delight – Goodlookingbabe colt purchased for $155,000.

“He’s a lovely colt. He’s well put together, lovely mover out of a very strong family. I’d be surprised if he couldn’t do something on the track.”

  • Bettor’s Delight – Goodlookinbabe colt

Con Grazia Aquila (Bold Eagle – Con Grazia) colt purchased for $50,000.

“He’s just come back for his third prep. He’ll probably do a little bit of work this time in. I couldn’t be happier with him. He’s got a great attitude to training, a willingness to work and just basically do everything right. It’s been terrific.”
