A catalogue page alone can’t tell the story of such a remarkable harness racing broodmare. In this years NZ Standardbred National Yearling Sale in Christchurch the mare Zenardle features in two yearlings, Lot 224 St John Eight and Lot 334 Diamond Miki.
Zenardle has done an outstanding job of producing nothing but winners, 92 in fact.. You can read the figures for yourself but the feats of Elroy Jetson alone must be highlighted.
His career has only just ended at the ripe old age of 11yo. He went out with a win in 1:52.5 after an amazing 236 starts. He won 32 races. He won a total of $291,122 in stakes and took a 1:50.8 mile rate.
His older half-sister, Zenable, also amassed a staggering 101 starts for 18 wins, $176,148 and a time of 1:51.2. Her broodmare career is well on the way with 3 starters already winning 12 races in total including the promising Rocket Boy.
Balfast is another highlight and is on a current winning roll in the USA. She has just won her last 2 starts giving her a lifetime record of 18 wins, $186,000 and 1:53.1.
In fact Zenardle left 3 winners in a week when Strength Of Heart won at Cambridge, Elroy Jetson at Menangle and Balfast at Yonkers.
Of her other progeny Zenmach was a promising young horse in New Zealand winning 6 races in NZ and another 5 in Australia. Drum Withers is also racing in Australia with his career at 6 wins, 1:53.4 and more to come. Strength Of Heart won 3 races as a trotter and is set to make his Australian debut.
Not to mention Luke John, 1:56.9, who looked very smart running 2nd in the Great Northern Derby and has also gone on to also win in Australia.
Of her remaining foals the injured and subsequently unraced mare Lew’s Delight has an outstanding yearling filly in the Christchurch sales.
Lot 334 – Bay Filly – Always B Miki – Lew’s Delight – Bettor’s Delight
