Bred in the UK and raised and raced early in her career in Ireland, Robyn Camden was able to fight for the early harness racing lead and then hold off all challengers in winning the $15,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace Monday at Saratoga Raceway.
The sixth race feature saw Birch Island Betty and driver Brett Beckwith take the early lead but a very determined Robyn Camden, at odds of 5-1, with driver Billy Dobson came on the outside to take the lead at the opening quarter mile in :27.2.
As the field came to the half mile marker, Chasethecloudsaway (Luke Hanners) started up first-over, giving outside flow cover to Miss Irish Rose A (Larry Stalbaum). The half went in :56.4.
The action began to heat up in the backstretch as Chasethecloudsaway rushed up to be second at the three-quarters in 1:25.4. Try as she might, Chasethecloudsaway could not get up to Robyn Camden, who was the strong horse in the stretch able to hold off a late charge by Birch Betty Island to win by a head in 1:54.4. Chasthecloudsaway was third.
