Trainer Per Engblom sent out two harness racing winners on Monday night at MGM Yonkers Raceway, with the second of victories being the 1,000th of his career.
Engblom joined forces with driver Jason Bartlett to take the second event with 4-year-old Sweet Lou gelding Lous The Attitude in 1:53.1 for owners Stephen and Brian Gordon, and then Engblom’s milestone triumph came with Coaches Corner in the $35,000 Invitational Pace. The runner-up in the final of the MGM Borgata Pacing Series earlier this year, Coaches Corner, a 4-year-old gelding by Always A Virgin owned by Jeff Fought Racing and Brian Carsey, got the job done from first-over in 1:51.
COACHES CORNER REPLAY
Last year’s leading trainer at Yonkers, Engblom has been battling with Travis Alexander at the top of the board in 2024 and went back in front 165 to 163 after his double.
A former assistant in the powerful Jimmy Takter stable, Engblom went out on his own in 2019 and has sent out horses that have earned over $21.1 million.
