Despite being winless in his first six harness racing starts this year, Workin Ona Mystery picked a perfect spot to get his first triumph of 2021, capturing the $100,000 #Senditin Invitational Pace Saturday at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
The tenth race feature saw Ocean Rock (Dan Noble) leave from the far outside post nine and take command with Workin Ona Mystery (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) grabbing the two-hole spot to the opening quarter in a speedy :25.2.
Meanwhile, Catch The Fire, the 7/5 favorite, was last at the quarter and never was heard from in the race.
To the half mile in :53.4 and Ocean Rock was steady on the lead as Brassy Hanover (Aaron Merriman) came first-over with Tellmeaboutit (Jeremy Smith) second-over. Smith would tip three-wide with Tellmeaboutit at the three-quarters in 1:20.4 but could not mount a late effort.
Meanwhile, Wrenn waited and made his move with Workin Ona Mystery, pulling the pocket and getting by Ocean Rock, then held off a late charge by Good Digger King (Brett Miller) to win by a half length in 1:49.1 with This Is The Plan (Chris Page) shooting up the rail to grab third place.
Trained by Brian Brown, Workin Ona Mystery is a five-year-old stallion by Captaintreacherous. He is co-owned by Diamond Creek Racing, Stambaugh Leeman Stable, Alan Keith and the Wingfield Brothers. He paid $15.80 to win.
WORKIN ONA MYSTERY REPLAY
āI knew there would be a few guys leaving in the race,ā said Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. āI didnāt think I could get in the two-hole but I was hoping to be kinda close. One I got behind Danny (Noble) I knew my horse would have some pace. He (Workin Ona Mystery) is all business, I really nice horse. Tonight Brian (Brown) put the blinds back on him and after my two-hole trip I wasnāt that worry once we got to the top of the lane.ā
