Prairie Magical (Royel Millennium) and harness racing driver Frank Affrunti captured the featured $8,500 Fillies & Mares’ Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Friday (June 7).
Dudes Sweet Bet (John MacDonald) went to the front and led to the quarter in :27.4. Arnie’s Angel (Dylan Huckabone-Miller took over heading around the first turn. Dudes Sweet Bet reclaimed the lead just before hitting the half first in :57.0. She continued to control things and led to three-quarters in 1:26.0.
As they reached the stretch Prairie Magical ($25.00) came flying three-wide and took the lead to win in 1:54.0. PL Princess C (Jeff Long) came up to finish second. Unusual Clarity (Ron Harp) finished third.
Prairie Magical is a 4-year-old mare owned and trained by (Laurie Poulin). It was her second win this season. She now has eight career victories.

John MacDonald drove three winners on the card Michael Miller, Frank Affrunti, and Leon Bailey had driving doubles. Hannah Miller had a training double.
Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (June 8) with a 13-race card starting at 6:05 p.m.
