Twelve to battle in $430,000 Kentucky Futurity

Hightstown, NJ — Hambletonian champion Cool Papa Bell (Chapter Seven) and Canadian Trotting Classic Winner Slay will be among the 12 horses competing in Sunday’s $430,000 Kentucky Futurity for 3-year-old trotters at Lexington’s Red Mile.

The field also includes Temporal Hanover (Walner), who won the Earl Beal Jr. Memorial and Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial, as well as Goodtimes winner Fast As The Wind (Cantab Hall).

Horses received spots in the field, which is limited to 12, based on seasonal earnings.

The Kentucky Futurity is the third jewel in the Trotting Triple Crown, following the Yonkers Trot and Hambletonian.

Joviality S (Chapter Seven), who won the Yonkers Trot, will be among the 12 horses in Sunday’s $276,000 Kentucky Filly Futurity for sophomore female trotters.

The Filly Futurity is race 10 on Sunday’s 12-race card, which begins at 1 p.m. (EDT). The Futurity will close the day.

Also appearing Sunday at the Red Mile will be harness racing’s No. 1-ranked horse Bulldog Hanover (Shadow Play), who will meet six foes in the $153,000 Allerage Farms Open Pace. Bulldog Hanover this year has won 12 of 13 races — including a current streak of 11 in a row — and is history’s fastest Standardbred with a mark of 1:45.4.
