Anthony MacDonald’s Thestable Three Point Group risked investing a $20,000 supplemental fee to enter their horse, Threepointbluechip in the $179,200 Matron Stakes for two-year-old trotting colts at Dover Downs on Thursday.
The investment paid off with dividends.
After some early shuffling on the lead, Threepointbluechip was able to take command for driver James MacDonald and then hold on the rest of the one-mile race, winning in 1:55 and paying $11.00 to win.
Once on lead by the first-quarter in :28.4, Threepointbluechip control the race with Whiskey Hanover (Andy Miller) sitting the two-hole past the half mile in :56.3.
Periculum with driver Mattias Melander came first-over, giving live cover to Esplosione (Dexter Dunn) with race favorite Double Deceiver (David Miller) third over on the outside.
By the three-quarters in 1:26, Esplosione moved three-wide to try and come after the leaders, but Threepointbluechip could not be caught, cross the wire a half length better than second place finisher Slay (Andy McCarthy) with Esplosione third.
THREEPOINTBLUECHIP REPLAY
The mile tied Threepointbluechip’s lifetime mark of 1:55. It was the third win this year for the colt by Walner. He was trained just this week by Jim King, Jr. for Canadian Anthony MacDonald.
“Good things happen to good guys,” Jim King, Jr. said. “I all I know is that I got a text from Anthony MacDonald asking me to take the horse for the week and here we are. Next week we will be taking him to the Meadowlands for the Valley Victory.”
