Katie Eick, of Farmingdale, New Jersey, has been selected as the recipient of the Curt Greene Memorial and the
Sweet Karen Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year from the Harness Horse Youth Foundation.
āItās tough to find a better recipient than Katie for our awards,ā said Adam Bowden, HHYF President. āShe attended her HHYF first camp when she was 12 with no racing background on a Girl Scout scholarship. Since then, she has participated at nearly every level of HHYF activities with an enthusiastic attitude and now she looks to put her college degree to work in the industry. Sheās a hard worker and an excellent example of our mission. Sheās definitely on the top of the āHHYF makes a differenceā list.ā
Katie will be entering her senior year at Rutgers University in the fall, pursuing a BS degree in Animal Science concentrating in Equine Science with a minor in Digital Communications. She has been on the Deanās List each college semester and was recently promoted to the Company Supervisor of the Community Service Office Program at Rutgers.
According to Katie, āNot only has HHYF had a positive influence on my life, but it has changed my entire lifeā¦.without HHYF, I would not have met my best friends or been introduced to the sport that is slowly consuming my life in the best way possible or have traveled to some of my favorite townsā¦I am so thankful for all of the people I have met as well as the places and opportunities horse racing has led me to whether it be directly or indirectly.ā
The Curt Greene Memorial Scholarship is open to students who have a passion for harness racing and have financial need. The Sweet Karen Scholarship is designed to specifically assist former participants of HHYF summer programs.
