Grove City, Ohio – Sugar Instead (Volstead), the 2023 Two-Year-Old Ohio Filly Trotter of the Year will make her seasonal harness racing debut Wednesday, May 1 in the first leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series at Miami Valley Gaming. The filly hit the board in 10 of 11 starts last year winning seven, earning $373,925.
Four divisions of filly trotters and five divisions of filly pacers will go to the gate with each division carrying a purse of $20,000.
Eight offspring of What The Hill highlight the 36 trotters while seven were sired by Long Tom.
On the pacing side, eight were sired by Fear The Dragon while six Lather Up fillies will start. A total of 41 pacers will go to the gate.
Forty-nine trainers will start sophomore fillies with Sugar Instead’s trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. and Herman Hagerman leading the way, each with four entries. Six other trainers will have three starters each.
