ER Kim and driver Bradley Ferguson worked out a second-over trip behind race favorite Whata Swan and then beat her to the wire to score an upset victory Saturday at Harrahās Hoosier Park.
The eleventh race $22,000 Open Trot saw I Know My Chip and driver Tyler Smith grind it out early to take the lead away from Classic Lane (Michael Oosting) after an opening quarter mile in :26.2.
I Know My Chip led the field past the half mile in :56.1. That was when Trace Tetrick took Whata Swan first-over, giving 23-1 longshot ER Kim live second-over cover.
They raced to the three-quarters in 1:27 with Whata Swan the strong horse, collaring I Know My Chip in the stretch, but it was a determined ER Kim and Bradley Ferguson who were the sharpest in the field, mowing down Whata Swan at the wire to win by a half-length in 1:54.2. Burrow (Travis Seekman) was third.
