Once taking the lead away from Royal Precedent after the opening quarter mile, undefeated Tennessee Tom (Long Tom) never looked back en route to capturing the $50,000 final of the James K. Hackett Memorial Trot Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Miami Valley Raceway.
The 1st race feature for three-year-old colts and geldings, saw Royal Precedent (Trace Tetrick) scoot to the early lead with Tennesse Tom and driver Chris Page sitting second, but not for long as after they passed the opening quarter mile in :28.2, Page sent Tennessee Tom to the front.
They sped by the half mile in :56.4 and once the hit the backstretch, Flash Of Fame (Jeremy Smith) came first-over, giving live outside cover to Luther Brothers (Dan Noble). Past the three-quarters in 1:26.2, Tennessee Tom held the field at bay.
Coming down the stretch, the pocket-sitting Royal Precedent tried to collar Tennessee Tom but came up a half a length short with the victory belonging to Tennessee Tom in 1:55.1. Luther Brothers was third.
