Bally’s Dover Downs will be the scene of $564,100 in harness racing stakes on Thursday, Nov. 3 with the start of the Matron Stakes for two-year-old trotters and pacers.
The stakes action gets underway with one early, non-wagering division at 4:10 pm. Just four two-year-old trotting colts entered and will race for a purse of $122,600. Featured is $155,000 winner, Crown (Chapter Seven), who sports four wins in eight starts for trainer Marcus Melander and a record of 1:55.3.
The stakes action on the pari-mutuel card gets started in the very 1st race, which is the $129,400 Matron Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies.
Quick Stop (Tactical Landing) may be the filly to beat from post three for driver Tim Tetrick. She has three wins and earnings of $216,775 this season for trainer Anette Lorenizon. She just missed winning by a neck in her last start at Lexington in 1:55.4. Quick Stop has won two of her last four starts, the fastest a lifetime mark of 1:55.
Ruth Honig (Chapter Seven) is also a contender from post two for driver Dexter Dunn. She has won $135,623 on the strength of three wins, the fastest a 1:56.2 mile. Her last start saw Ruth Honig just miss by a neck at Harrah’s Philadelphia in a $53,500 division of the John Simpson Stakes in 1:55.2.
A major rivalry continues in the 4th race $156,500 Matron Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies where Earthwindfire (American Ideal) takes on rival Vivians Dream (American Ideal).
Earthwindfire starts from post five and enters on a three-race winning streak for trainer Brett Pelling. A five-time winner this year with a record of 1:51.3, Earthwindfire enters off a ten-length romp at Freehold Raceway in the $70,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes and prior to that won the $200,000 Kentuckiana Stake at the Red Mile where she took her record mile.
Both Earthwindfireand and Vivians Dream have raced against each other before, each beating the other in stakes competition.
Vivians Dream goes from post one for driver Brian Sears. She is trained by Cory Mumford and has six wins in ten starts, the fastest a lifetime mark of 1:50.4. She recently qualified at Dover Downs in 1:54.3.
The final division is the 10th race with a purse of $155,600 for two-year-old pacing colts.
Headlining the field is Ervin Hanover (Captaintreacherous) who drew post eight for driver Yannick Gingras. A $204,375 winner for the Ron Burke Stable, Ervin Hanover sports three wins and a record of 1:50.4.
Another contender is Cant Stop Lou (Sweet Lou) who starts from the rail for driver David Miller. A four-time winner in 2022, Cant Stop Lou has a record of 1:52.2 and earnings of $123,500.
Other continues include Lyons Stealth (post 7), Cannibal (post 6) and Act Fast (post 5).
