The ageless harness racing wonder Melady’s Monet overcame post eight to pick up his 82nd career victory in Friday night’s (October 29) $48,000 Open Handicap Trot at Yonkers Raceway.
Driven by Jason Bartlett, the 12-year-old gelding by Revenue S was able to find a seat in third and watched as Rock Of Cashel, piloted by Austin Siegelman, hit the quarter in 27.2 and the half in 56.4. Melady’s Monet then went on the attack in the third quarter, and he would wrestle command away from Rock Of Cashel after the 1:26.2 three-quarters.
From there, Melady’s Monet had to hold off Big Box Hanover and driver Jim Marohn Jr., and he was able to do so, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.2. Warrior One, steered by George Brennan, came in third.
Trained by Hermann Heitmann for owner Melady Enterprises LLC., Melady’s Monet has now earned $1,963,658. He paid $12.20 to win and was atop a $138.00 exacta and a $524.00 trifecta.
