Grove City, OH – A Real Legend (Uncle Peter) put together a legendary performance in just his fifth harness racing start of his career as he set a world record in the Ohio Sires Stakes at MGM Northfield Park Monday night (Aug. 16).
In the second of two $55,000 divisions for freshman colt trotters, John Dutton and driver Chris Page raced to the early lead covering the first quarter in 29.2.
Just past the quarter pole A Real Legend with Don Irvine Jr. grabbed the front end and never looked back. He covered the second quarter in :28, hitting the half-mile pole in :57.2.
A Real Legend extend the lead to two-lengths at the top of the stretch and held off John Dutton tripping the wire in 1:55 to win by a length. Black Magic (Chris Lems) was third.
A REAL LEGEND REPLAY
The clocking set a new track record and world record for two-year-old gelded trotters on a half-mile track. Owned by trainer Rosy Weaver and Heartland Acres, A Real Legend has now earned $75,300.
The prior world record was 1:55.4 set by The Mighty Hill in 2021 at Northfield Park.
In the first division, Jet Hill (What The Hill), the 1-9 favorite, with Kurt Sugg made it look easy, going gate-to-wire winning in 1:57.
Sugg took the colt to lead and cut the mile with fractions of :29.1, :59.1 and 1:27.4. The win was the second for Jet Hill in four starts with both wins coming in the Ohio Sires Stakes.
Burton’s Hill was second with Asian Zing finishing third.
JET HILL REPLAY
Jet Hill is trained by Edward Miller and owned by Serenity Racing Stables. With the win, Jet Hill has earned $59,375 this year.
Ohio Sires Stakes action resumes Friday afternoon at Eldorado Scioto Downs with the third leg fort two-year-old filly pacers. First race post time is 3:15.
