One of America’s best in-person live sales for solid harness racing stock are coming up next week. The Blooded Horse Sale’s annual Winter consignment is set for Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at the Champions Center Expo, 4122 Laybourne Road, in Springfield, Ohio, and features 159 well-bred trotters and pacers looking for new homes.
There’s a little something in this sale for all horsepeople, and what follows are those horses we feel are worth watching, in varying categories. Good luck!
WAR HORSES
Hip No. 158 is Hypnotic Blue Chip (Art Major) p, 4, 1:47.2 ($1,787,311). Now 17, many will remember this old-timer as the horse that won the 2010 edition of the $182,500 US Pacing Championship at The Meadowlands in 1:47.2 driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Kevin McDermott. He competed against top pacers Shark Gesture, Won The West, and Foiled Again, racing through age eight, with 34 wins, 19 seconds, and 16 thirds in 123 starts.
Since his retirement, he has stood stud in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Illinois, siring 154 registered foals, with 87 starters, 47 who have paced in 2:00 or faster, and 33 with records of 1:55 or better, for total progeny earnings of $3,969,619. After all he’s done, Hypnotic Blue Chip deserves to live his life out in a peaceful retirement.
Hip No. 136 is Swapportunity p,7,1:50.1f ($354,338), an 11-year-old, Ohio-bred, gelded son of Mach Three, out of the Art Major mare Swap Blue Chip, dame of the winners of $457,687. This rugged pacer has raced steadily from 2015 through 2022, with records on all size raceways. He has raced all over the US, most recently in Maine and has started 208 times, with 39 wins, 36 seconds, and 28 thirds.
Hip No. 146 Resita 5, 1:52s ($317,126) is a 9-year-old, Ohio-bred, gelded son of Manofmanymissions. A tough trotter who has raced and won on all sizes of racetracks, he has been racing at The Meadows and is a half-brother to half-brother to Facts Or Theory 3, 2:00.3h ($34,931) and Coloratura 3, 1:57.4s ($28,882). Resita’s dam, Winkys Magik, by Muscles Yankee, is the dam of the winners of $397,880. Resita went behind the gate 189 times in his career with 31 wins, 16 seconds, and 21 thirds to his credit.
Hip No. 134 Fluff Me Up 4, 1:54.2h ($303,690), is a hardy, Indiana-bred, 12-year-old gelding by ABC Garland who has raced steadily since his freshman season, with records taken on all size tracks. He is the first and most prolific foal out of the Striking Sahbra mare B Fluff This and is a half-brother to Morris The Moose (by Mr Cantab) 3, 1:58.2s ($48,360). He is currently racing at Ohio’s Miami Valley Raceway. This gelding has 43 lifetime wins, 51 seconds and 32 thirds from 254 career trips postward.
Hip No. 113 is Lancaster Park p, 7, 1:52h ($360,636), a gelded son of Art Colony, and a solid competitor from age two in 2014 to age 11 in 2023. His dam is the unraced Blissfull Hall mare, St Anne Hall, making him a half-brother to Striptease Hall p, 3, 1:52.3 ($148,504). As well, St Anne Hall is a half-sister to Sapphire City p,9,1:49.3f ($1,490,475), Jeremys Gambit p,3, Q1:51.1 ($1,152,247), Kings Gambit p,4,1:51.4 ($262,039). Lancaster Park has 46 career wins, 25 seconds and 30 thirds in 246 starts.
Hip No. 109 Is Inforce p, 5, 1:50.4f ($367,136)a 10-year-old stallion by Western Terror, and a half-brother to For A Bettor Time p,3,1:51.1f ($190,739); Oneshotatthetitle p,3,1:51.2s ($50,734); What’s Your Beef p,2,1:51.3s ($235,901); You Said It p,4,1:52.2f ($121,808); and Candell p,3,1:53f ($267,881). Hi dam is the Real Artist mare Kats Treasure, p, 4, 1:57.1 ($19,692). Inforce is another war horse who has raced consistently from ages 2 through ten and is currently racing at Rosecroft with 26 wins, 37 seconds, and 36 thirds from 228 lifetime starts.
Hip No. 102, Chocolate Crackers p, 7, 1:50.3h ($474,211), is a 23-year-old Western Terror gelding and brother to Always Love Me p,5,1:53f ($250,955). His dam is the Grinfromeartoear mare Chrome Hearts p, 3, 1:58.2f ($7,991), and like the others in here, he has raced solidly from ages 2 through 11, and has taken records every year he’s raced, on all sizes of tracks. From 337 starts, he has 42 wins, 51 seconds, and 39 thirds.
Hip No. 95 is Bet On Blake, p, 4, 1:51.2f (145,743), is a 5-year-old gelding by Betterthancheddar who earned nearly $70,000 in both of his past two seasons. This Ontario-bred is out of the Shadow Play mare Lady Lynnly, and has a five-eights mile record of 1:51.2 and a half-mile record of 1:53.1. From 60 career starts he has eight wins, ten seconds, and eight thirds, and is currently racing at The Meadowlands.

Bred by Maryland’s Winbak Farm, Wire The Cash is Ontario-eligible, and is from the first crop of the The Bank, who sired the Italy’s 2020 Freshman Trotting Filly of the Year, Caramel Club. Wire The Cash is thus a half-brother to Overnight Shipper 4,1:54.4f ($217,570), Distracting Beauty 7,1:56.1f ($119,028), Overnight Hit 4,1:57f ($182,415), and Overnight Command 3,1:59h ($226,625), etc.
Hip No. 11 is Driving Lane, another Winbak Farm colt, this one by Met’s Hall 3, 1:51.2 ($1,295,306), and out of the Donerail mare Mom’s Sweetie Pie 3, 1:57.1 ($31,859).
