Monticello, NY—Abuelita Hanover (Somebeachsomewhere, Fern Paquet Jr) won the $6,500 Fillies and Mares Open harness racing pace at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon (Jan. 22).
Thinking Of A Card (Adam Moeykens) went for the early lead, alongside Jeannies Terror (Gregory Merton). From the outside, Abuelita Hanover rushed to steal the lead. As they came to the first quarter in :30.2, Abuelita Hanover had the lead by a little over a length. Pocket trip Thinking Of A Card was racing in second, followed closely by the post time favorite Jeannies Terror. They passed the half mile in 1:00.2.
Abuelita Hanover was holding onto her lead as they made it to the three-quarter mile in 1:29.3. Abuelita Hanover crossed the wire first in 1:59, three lengths in front of Lady Chrislyn (Bruce Aldrich Jr).
Jeannies Terror finished in third.
