MONTICELLO, N.Y.— Andrew Adamczyk stormed for the lead up the backstretch with even-money chalk Backstreet Player (Cantab Hall) and won going away in a 2:01.1 mile over a sloppy harness racing track to take the $7,500 North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) Trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday (Aug. 20).

Leaving from post 4, Adamczyk settled Backstreet Player in the pocket behind pacesetter Big Charlie Moran (driven by Mario D’Abruzzo), who pushed from the pylon post to lead the field to a :30.4 first quarter.

Big Charlie Moran maintained a steady tempo to a 1:01.3 half, prompting 8-5 second choice Doo Wop Kid (Alan Schwartz) to pull off the pegs and march first over to challenge for the lead.

Adamczyk meanwhile waited until the backstretch to strike with Backstreet Player, lunging forward on the move to three-quarters in 1:31.1 to overhaul a tiring Doo Wop Kid and press Big Charlie Moran for the lead. Backstreet Player then surged to the front off the bottom corner and spurted clear of Big Charlie Moran to post a four-length victory. Lotto Hill (Bob Davis) rallied for third, another six lengths behind, with Doo Wop Kid settling for fourth.

BACKSTREET PLAYER REPLAY

Nick Devita trains Backstreet Player, a 6-year-old gelding by Cantab Hall, for owner David Hamm. He paid $4.20 to win.

NAADA action continues next Wednesday (Aug. 27) at Monticello Raceway. First-race post time at Monticello is 12:10 p.m. (EDT).
