Monticello, NY— Two $7,500 divisions in the North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) trotting series went to post Wednesday at Monticello Raceway and when the judges deemed each race official, Alan Schwartz and Jake Stillwell each reined a winner. Schwartz with Makin Trouble K in 2:00.3 while Stillwell scored behind Cyclone Maximus in 2:02.4.
In his split Schwartz sent Makin Trouble K to the lead from the three-hole and they had four lengths on their competition as the quarter pole timer flashed :30 seconds and they were still comfortably in charge when they passed the half in 1:00.3.
Still on the engine when he passed the third stanza in 1:30.2 Schwartz opened two lengths on his competition. At that point John Calabrese rallied Shoemaker Hanover and when they headed for home Makin Trouble K tired but was still strong enough to rebuff a late charge by Shoemaker Hanover and go on to a neck triumph over Calabrese’s trotter. Winneress (Tony Verruso) finished third some four lengths behind the winner.
Sent off as the favorite, Makin Trouble K paid $4.80 for the win. The 8-year-old Rose Run Hooligan mare is owned by Bruce Aldrich, Jr. and trained by Laura Perino.
