LEBANON, OH – Alexa Skye (Somebeachsomewhere) completed a harness racing three-peat in the weekly Miami Valley Mares Open on Thursday (March 2) and did she do it in style.
The six-year-old mare paced the second fastest mile by a female in the track’s ten-year history—missing the great Shartin N’s 1:49.3 Grand Circuit track record performance in 2018 by one-fifth of a second.
In a scratched down compact field of five, Alexa Skye wasted no time assuming control of the $26,000 feature race.
Driver Trace Tetrick sent the winner on a gate to wire mission from the get-go. Alexa Skye and Tetrick sped through uncontested fractions of :26.1, :54.2 and 1:21.4 before completing their journey with a :28 second final quarter to stop the teletimer in 1:49.4 and that included no discernable urging on Tetrick’s part.
ALEXA SKYE REPLAY
In The Spotlight N (Tyler Smith) was second and Grace Rocks (Dan Noble) got the show dough. Oddly enough, it was In The Spotlight N’s trainer Jeff Cullipher who broke Alexa Skye and campaigned her until selling her at the end of her five-year-old season.
Odds On Racing bought Alexa Skye in November and she moved into the Virgil Morgan Jr. barn. In the first 11 starts under Morgan’s tutelage, she has never been worse than third in the open ranks at Dayton Raceway and Miami Valley. For her career, the former standout in the Blue Chip Matchmaker series at Yonkers, has recorded 22 wins in 65 tries and amassed $393,969.
Miami Valley is dark on Friday and Saturday but resumes it regular Sunday through Thursday schedule on March 5 with a 4:00 p.m. post time.
