The 6-5 co-favorite Alexa Skye (Somebeachsomewhere, Trace Tetrick) won the $34,000 Fillies and Mares Open harness racing pace at Miami Valley Raceway on Sunday (April 7).
Alexa Skye took the early lead, followed by Mossdale Lottee N (Tyler Smith) from the outside. Anthem (Jeremy Smith) was racing in third as they passed the opening quarter mile in :27.3. Alexa Skye had the lead by a length and a half over Mossdale Lottee N as they reached the half mile in :56.
From the outside, Anthem moved to challenge Mossdale Lottee N for second. Alexa Skye was still in front at the three-quarter mile in 1:23.1. As they came down the stretch, Anthem rushed to challenge Alexa Skye, but Alexa Skye crossed the wire first in 1:51.2. Kentukylady (Kayne Kauffman) finished in third.
Alexa Skye is a 7-year-old mare trained by Virgil Morgan Jr for owners Let It Ride Stables Inc and Odds On Racing. She paid $4.60 to win.
