Despite being parked first-over from before the half mile marker, Back Of The Neck (Ready Cash) was able to grind it out to the wire for harness racing driver Tim Tetrick to win the $250,000 Dayton Trotting Derby at Hollywood Dayton Raceway on Saturday (Oct. 1).

It was the second straight win in the Dayton Trotting Derby for Back Of The Neck.

The trotters got underway with Jujubee (Andy McCarthy) leaving sharply for the lead with Rattle My Case (Ake Svanstedt) getting the two-hole trip as they sped past the first quarter in :27.3. Soon after Tim Tetrick was flushed first-over with Back Of The Neck by Lovedbythemasses (Todd McCarthy) as Jujubee led by the half mile in :56.3.

Down the backside Jujubee held his lead with Back Of The Neck sitting comfortably on the outside for Tetrick past the three quarters in 1:24.2. As they came down the stretch, Back Of The Neck wore down Jujubee and went on to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.1. Rattle My Cage was able to nose out Jujubee for second place.

BACK OF THE NECK REPLAY

It was the third straight win for Back Of The Neck. Bred by the Order By Stable AB of Sweden, they co-own Back Of The Neck with Howard Taylor and Judith Taylor. The five-year-old stallion paid $4.60 to win as the race favorite.
