Plainville, MA — It was a double feature at Plainridge Park on Thursday (Oct. 17) as a pair of $25,000 Open paces were carded and the father-son harness racing team of trainer Mark Beckwith and driver Brett Beckwith won both of them.
It was ladies first in the distaff division where Remy Brown N (Vincent) went the mile of her life.
Side Piece (Drew Monti) made her way to the front while Remy Brown N was happy to take the trip. Side Piece got to the half in :54.4 with only a tepid bid from behind by Violets Rainbow (Mitchell Cushing) who was leading a weak outer flow.
Side Piece and Remy Brown N were clear from the field around the last turn and when they entered the straightaway, Beckwith left the pocket, bolted to the lead and won by a length over Seaside Tina (Kevin Switzer Jr.) in a career best clocking of 1:51.1.
It was the eighth win of the year for Remy Brown N ($8.80) who is owned by Steve Manzo and Pie San.
REMY BROWN REPLAY
Later the gentlemen got together and Fourever Boy (Sweet Lou) went gate to wire in easy fashion.
Fourever Boy left from post eight and settled on the lead before the :26.3 quarter. With Naturally Gifted A (Bruce Ranger) drafting from second, Fourever Boy got to the half in :55.4 and three-quarters in 1:23.2. When they got to the top of the stretch, Naturally Gifted A made a break and that left Fourever Boy on top by two and he paced to the line with no urging to win in 1:51.2.
FOUREVER BOY REPLAY
Fourever Boy ($10.20) is owned by Micki Rae Stable and Tim Twaddle.
Both Mark and Brett ended the day with a triple in their respective categories.
Mitchell Cushing also had a hat trick during the afternoon.
Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Friday (Oct. 18) at 2 p.m. and there will be a $3,699 carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta in race six.
