Cream Ridge, NJ – 12/21/2021 The Standardbred Retirement Foundation’s, (SRF) volunteers at the Face Book page Standardbred Retirement Foundation/Save Our Standardbreds From Slaughter makes miracles happen.
Together, SRF and SOSS volunteers have been able to save about 750 trotters and pacers from slaughter this year.
Here are two stories from this week alone on very fortunate Standardbreds.
The screen shots from Face Book shown here explain it all for Texas Shoot K and Jordan Miller. What a guy to feel the connection and keep the appreciation for what this horse has done for him, and to do it with such compassion.
His smiles touch us all.
The other heartwarming story is of a wonderful foster home who opened her barn and her loving care to Sweet Billy Bob. When he was found weighed and tagged to ship to Canada for slaughter, his past owner was contacted, and he stepped up in a big way. He paid to release him, quarantine him, and ship him to his foster home.
He shared that this special horse had belonged to his mother. Just a few days ago, our foster home sent us a screen shot of a note attached to a check that she had received from this gentleman. He gets it, horses are costly.
The gift of a home for this horse is obviously appreciated. His kind and generous gift to help with care was a wonderful surprise in so many ways.
There are some special people with admirable character, and then there are some needing a refresher. These two gentlemen; SRF volunteers, and foster home; and especially SRF donors have more than character, they have heart! www.adoptahorse.org/ SRF is the only organization providing help of this magnitude for this breed. It is leading the way in other efforts to bring change to how these horses are treated and disposed of. It asks individuals and companies to help get this work done by expressing their interest in this effort by emailing SRFassist@gmail.com.Ā
