Brue Hanover (Stay Hungry), a 16-1 longshot, was given a perfect two-hole trip by harness racing driver Matt Kakaley and just got up at the wire to win the $32,000 3ā5-Year-Old Open Pace Wednesday (March 27) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 2nd race feature saw Kakaley leave with Brue Hanover at the start of the race and then was chased by race favorite Adam Twelve (Jason Bartlett), who took command after an opening quarter mile in :27.3.
Adam Twelve then cut the mile to the half in :57.2 with Brue Hanover in tow. Down the backstretch, Rock The Belles (Joe Bongiorno) started up first-over with Panettone Hanover (George Brennan) following second-over at the three-quarters in 1:25.1.
Around the final turn it was all Adam Twelve until the top of the stretch. Thatās when Kakley came after the race leader with Brue Hanover. It might have taken all of the stretch, but Brue Hanover caught Adam Twelve to win by a neck in 1:53.2. Oakwood Paddy IR (Jordan Stratton) was third.
BRUE HANOVER REPLAY
It was the first win in two starts this year for Brue Hanover. The four-year-old gelding is trained by Michael Burke owner Bradley Grant of Ontario. He paid $34.40 to win.
