Bythemissal (Downbytheseaside) captured the $600,000 Breeders Crown Open Pace in 1:48 over a sloppy, rain-soaked harness racing track with Yannick Gingras at the lines for trainer Ron Burke.
Bred by Stephen P. Dey, III, Bythemissal is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Richard Lombardo, and Weaver Bruscemi.
The 4-year-old bay gelding picked up his tenth seasonal win and his 24thĀ lifetime victory for his connections.
Bythemissal, sent off at 9-5, battled from the get-go with 4-5 rival Tattoo Artist (Heās Watching) with driver Louis Roy through an opening panel of :25.4, before giving way to the latter at the :53.2 half. Positions remained unchanged through the 1:21.4 three-quarter, before Bythemissal took command in late stretch to secure the win by two lengths over 45-1 Lou’s Pearlman (Tim Tetrick) and finishing third was Tattoo Artist. Bythemissal paid $5.80 to win.
This gutsy gelding now has $2,007,966 in career earnings and was handled by caretaker Daisey Brown.
āIt was a great showdown and there was a lot of pushing back and forth early on,ā said winning trainer Ron Burke. āThis horse loves this track and he and Louās Pearlman were bouncing off each other in the stretch. Iām proud of all these guys.ā
