C-bet Hanover breaks Stoneboro record; Sunday canceled

STONEBORO PA – Foul weather continues to bedevil the Pennsylvania Fair Circuit, as Sunday’s harness racing for three-year-olds at this western Pennsylvania track had to be cancelled – the second card of six lost to cancellation so far this year, following a wipeout of the two-year-olds at Silver Springs Ranch on July 1.

Among the two-year-olds Saturday, the Betting Line – Cloris Hanover colt C-Bet Hanover made his fair circuit debut a memorable one, lowering the Stoneboro record for baby pacing males to 2:00.2. Trainer/driver Todd Schadel brought his hot hands from Silver Springs Ranch to the other side of the state as the freshman, whom he co-owns with Andy Miller Stable Inc., knocked 3/5 of a second off the old divisional mark shared by A OK Hanover and Well Lets See.

Todd’s brother Tony came close to another track record when he guided the Explosive Matter – Phanny’s Photo trotting filly Phannys Matter, as her 2:04.4 clocking got within 2/5 of a second of the Stoneboro standard co-held by Magnolia Grace and Peoplesayimnogood. Tony shares ownership of the filly with trainer/wife Linda.

Aaron Johnston was the hot driver at Stoneboro Saturday with four visits to the winners circle; Todd Schadel’s barn sent out three winners to be, as it turned out, King For A Day among the trainers.

A turnaround in the Fair Circuit’s fortunes begins Monday, when they will draw for the Wednesday and Thursday cards at the Lycoming County Fair in Hughesville PA, in the northcentral part of the state near Williamsport (home of the Little League World Series).
