With many of the regulars racing at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, driver Corey Callahan took full advantage and won six races on the 12-race harness racing program at the Meadowlands Saturday night.
A win behind Mel Mara in the featured $17,500 conditioned pace were among Callahan's half-dozen.
Callahan urged the 4-5 favorite right to the top, cut fast fractions and never had an anxious moment, scoring by 5 lengths in a lifetime-best 1:48.2 for trainer Dylan Davis and owners Robert Cooper Stables (Boca Raton, FL) and J&T Silva Stables (Long Beach, NY). National Seelster and My Hero Ron finished second and third, respectively.
Callahan's six pack came with Amped Up ($3.60 to win) in the second race, Backdraft Hanover ($3.20) in the fourth, Mel Mara ($3.80) in the seventh, Alexie Mattosie ($4) in the ninth, Calvin B ($13.20) in the 10th and Ourea Nourrir ($13.80) in the 11th.
SUPER JACKPOT: The 12th race 20 cent Jackpot Super High Five did not get hit again, upping the carryover for the next program to $204,233.16.
Total wagering on the card was $2,887,281.
Next week, the Meadowlands will alter its schedule. The track will go dark for live racing Friday and then race Saturday (May 7) at the usual 7:15 p.m. before a special Mother's Day program on Sunday, May 8, which has a special early post time of 12:40 p.m.
Stanley Koper of Chicago, IL was the winner of the World Harness Handicapping Championship Final Saturday night at the Meadowlands.
Koper qualified via betamerica.com and finished the competition with a total of $1,100 to top the standings, and took home the grand prize of $16,600.
