Majorca N exploded in the stretch and won the $32,500 Mares Open/ Preferred Handicap Pace at Dover Downs on Wednesday night. It capped a hot night for harness racing driver Corey Callahan as he won five races on the program.
Feeling Sweet and driver Mike Cole left alertly in the 11th race feature and were allowed to control the race fractions of :27.1, :56 (:28.4) and 1:23.4.
Bettors Heart N and driver Dexter Dunn raced 1st up past the half. They could only offer mild pressure at the three quarters against the pacesetter Feeling Sweet.
Race favorite, Majorca N and driver Corey Callahan sat dead last at the top of the stretch, then erupted and swept past the field to win by a head in 1:51.4. She paid $2.80 for the win.
MAJORCA N REPLAY
The margin of victory was not an indication of how dominant she was. Majorca N pronounced May-orca, paced her last three quarters in 1:23 and a last half in 54.2. The judges classified the racing surface as good with a one second weather variance was posted.
Majorca N (Art Major– Cloudy Beach- Tinted Cloud) is owned by Michael Casalino Jr of New Jersey and Dylan Davis of Delaware, Davis also trains the winner. Feeling Sweet was 2nd for trainer Joe Columbo.Ā Anneke was 3rd for trainer Brenda Teague. Pat Berry drove.
Montrell Teague drove 4 winners on the betting card.
The $32,500 Preferred Handicap Pace and features Let It Ride N, who is looking for his 3rd consecutive win. The race is scheduled for the 12th race on a 15-race betting card on Thursday night.
