WASHINGTON, PA, May 18, 2023 — Calliope Hanover (Stay Hungry-Castaway Hanover) sustained a first-over move that carried her to victory in Thursday’s (May 18) harness racing feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, an $11,800 Filly & Mare Conditioned Pace.

Calliope Hanover was third when Hunter Myers sent her after the leader, Stay Happy, who was able to maintain her margin until mid-stretch. That’s when the 3-year-old filly kicked it into a higher gear and overtook Stay Happy, downing her by a length in a career-best 1:54.1. The hard-used Betting Fra earned show.

CALLIOPE HANOVER REPLAY

Brad Buxton trains Calliope Hanover for Joellen Buxton, Harold Altman and Vavlin Racing LLC. She paid $5.40 to win as the wagering favorite.

Trainer Dirk Simpson fashioned a four-bagger on the 12-race card while Jeremy Indof piloted three winners.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday, first post 12:45 PM.
